Terms & Conditions

The following Terms and Conditions are for the Standard Comforts by Characters services. Terms and Conditions for Comforts by Creatures and Health and Wellness services will be included in their respective downloads.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

​

  1. This service works on the Three Strike Policy - two warnings and then a ban warning. The fourth message regarding rules will result in an instant ban.

  2. No services will be refunded if a customer is banned.

 

RULES
 

  1. Please do not use any slurs in the main chat. Certain questionable themes may occur in roleplay rooms, but those are private and not viewed by anyone but the mods. If you aren’t sure if something is a slur, or you aren't sure if it's going to be offensive, either avoid it, or come speak to one of the mods about it.
     

  2. If you have an aversion to a specific group of people, then this is not the service for you. Do not voice these things in our public forums. Derogatory commentary or hateful behaviours towards anyone will result in a 24-hour “time out” (that will not be refunded) and a warning. 

    • Yes, this includes anything regarding politics.

    • Yes, this includes personal identification (pronouns) and presentation.

    • Yes, this includes lifestyle choices.

    • Yes, this includes issues of mental and physical health conditions.

    • Yes, this includes personal dogma, faith, morals, and religion.

    • Yes, this includes race and ethnicity, gender, and sexual identity.
       

  3. Members are NOT permitted to delete messages in any of the main service areas. The only place that a customer is permitted to delete messages is in their private thread. Anyone caught breaking this rule will receive an official warning.
     

  4. Any members trying to skirt the rules above by using their Tupperbox bots to send any rule-breaking content will face instant banning upon discovery of the culprit. No warnings.
     

  5. Proof of age is REQUIRED for Not Safe For Work (NSFW) content, specific media (18+ rating), and romance regardless of context. This is in the form of a valid, government-issued identification card. Requirements are full legal name, city, province/state, and country. Details must match the billing information or service may be refused. If your preferred name differs from your legal name, please speak to a Team Member directly.
     

  6. If an NSFW package has been ordered, then a member (upon confirmation of age) will have access to “Adult” areas of the server. These are the ONLY areas in the server where adult themes can be posted. Instances of posting inappropriate, adult content in the main Safe for Work (SFW) content areas will result in warnings, and then a ban.
     

  7. No SFW Customer will be permitted into the Adult Sections of the server without confirmation of age, no matter what package they purchase.
     

  8. Please note that there are no mental health professionals on the Comforts by Character’s service team. While it is true that this service was created to bring people comfort and a safe place to express themselves, this does not mean that any of the team members are able to take on situations in which they are not qualified.

    There is a list of resources that all team members have access to and are willing to share, but we understand that it may not encompass all needs. This also does not mean that team members and others in the server are not willing to listen and/or offer opinions. However, Comforts by Characters cannot take responsibility for anyone’s mental health as it is not in our scope of practice and all team members have a right to tell customers that they are uncomfortable with discussing anything that they deem may be better suited to a professional.

    This may include any of the following:

    • Depression, suicidal ideation, self-harm, eating disorders, anxiety, relationship problems, drug and alcohol abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, mental/emotional abuse, bullying, trauma, PTSD/C-PTSD, or any other mental health diagnosis 

      Please avoid such private discussions AND provide a suitable content warning.
       

  9. All services purchased are for Single Character interaction. If a secondary, or tertiary character is needed for a service, then they must be purchased via the Team Up package. Some threads may include outside temporary NPCs that can be used to further a story, but any long-term characters will need to be purchased.
     

  10. Full and partial refunds are individual to each service. Please adhere to the individual policies for each. They are not available for made-to-order items if they have been started.
     

  11. You cannot purchase a service for future use. Roleplay, texting, or digital made-to-order items must be started within two weeks of purchase. We are unable to hold spots or extend services beyond that timeframe, so please plan accordingly.
     

  12. Each writer who offers e-mails has a different schedule. E-mails from Bee are delivered on Saturdays only. Rizza delivers e-mails on a rolling basis during their hours of operation.
     

  13. Comforts by Characters is NOT a service wherein an individual purchases a FRIEND.
    You are paying to have your comfort character text, roleplay, or e-mail you in character. While friendships develop between Team Members and customers, and between customers themselves, this does not mean that Team Members are available at every beck and call. Each Team Member has their own working hours and chooses whether to be available outside of them.
     

  14. Comforts by Characters offers a paid archive service for threads. You can opt in to receive a PDF of your roleplay thus far. Otherwise, we ask that any individual who wishes to save their roleplay and/or texting logs do so via the method they see fit to use. (EG: screengrab, copy/paste, etc.) Moderators and Team Members are NOT responsible for the backup of threads.
     

  15. All threads are kept in an archive system for up to 9 weeks. At the end of these 9 weeks, threads will be deleted to make room for others to be archived.
     

  16. Subscribers MUST speak to their writer directly and confirm with them any changes to their subscriptions. Whether you're upgrading or downgrading your plan, we kindly ask that you give your writer advance notice as a courtesy. This information cannot be passed along.
     

  17. Comforts by Characters does take off days for both religious and national holidays. We are human, too, and most of us with families, partners, and personal needs. Days that are taken off from a customer’s service for holiday means will be compensated. Dates for Compensation will be announced via the Announcements Channel and/or in Individual Writer Channels. 
     

  18. Although there are many stores online that offer comfort character services, we do ask that customers not discuss them by name in our servers. This is not because of competition, but because one person’s experience does not always equate to the experience of others. We do not bad-mouth other businesses. We are definitely alright with folks sharing with one another one-on-one, or in their own friend groups; but please: not in the servers.
     

  19. All members of the Comforts by Characters Team are available to DM with from time to time. This does not mean that it is alright to inundate team members or writers regularly. Anything that is deemed to become a hindrance to a team member’s work may cause individuals to be put in time out.

    • This includes coming to team members to ask if a post in the announcements thread is about them. If anyone is being specifically called out, they will be spoken to directly.
       

SHORT- AND LONG-FORM ROLEPLAY AND TEXTING
 

  1. The length of roleplay is determined at the time of order. Length may adapt based on the customer’s writing, but responses will not go beyond the Discord word limit (without Nitro).
     

  2. Purchasing the Standard Timed Service offers 3 or 4 daily responses (limited), and the Write Light Timed Service offers 2 daily responses.

    • There is no set number of daily responses for purchasing the Number of Replies option.
       

  3. The length of texting ranges from 1 - 4 sentences with added emojis, gifs, pictures, etc., depending on the character. Texting offers 8 - 10 daily responses.
     

  4. General Rules:

    • Adhere to each Team Member’s Content to Avoid List provided at the time of ordering.

    • All god-modding, boundary-breaking, and otherwise unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated.

    • Team Members are open to healthy discussions and will provide a partial or full refund within 2 days of starting if you do not wish to continue.

    • Service must be started within 2 weeks of purchasing. Leaving the server will result in termination of service.
       

REGARDING COMPENSATED SERVICES AND MAKEUP REPLIES
 

  1. When Customers WILL receive compensated services:

    • When the writer that you are partnered with is unable to meet their minimum replies with you, during the hours of which they work, and it is their fault for it. (EG: having responsibilities in real life, needing to take time off due to sickness, etc.) Please make note of your partner’s time and keep an eye on the announcements channel in order to know whether or not you will be compensated for time and/or replies.
       

    • When a customer needs time off because Real Life Happens, and they know they will not be available at all for a certain period. We will hold service up to a week for any one customer, so long as we can do so.
       

    • When a writer needs time away for more than one day (because Real Life Happens) and they know they will not be available at all for a certain period. In this case, services will be put on hold for however long it takes to either give the customer a new partner, OR for their original partner to return.
       

  2. When Customers will NOT receive compensated services:

    • When the writer that you are partnered with is making replies during their normally scheduled hours, and the customer is the one who does not reply. At the end of the writer's daily writing period, if they are the last one who answered, then they will not comp the extra replies. We understand Real Life Happens, but complimentary time cannot be given if you've got more than 50% of your replies for the day.
       

    • If an individual has been placed on a Time Out because of breaking other rules. We should not need to explain why this is a thing.


FURTHER INFORMATION
 

  1. Upon purchasing this service and downloading this document, you are agreeing to the Terms of Service and will be held to the Terms of Conduct in the server and regarding the Service provided.
     

  2. While there is NOT a hard rule about reacting to posts, it is STRONGLY SUGGESTED that individuals react to posts in the announcements channel, or to any posts that tag everyone in the server. This is so that we have a good idea of who has, and has not, seen the new announcements.
     

  3. Anyone who leaves a review on a service they’ve received will receive a one-time-use coupon to discount their next service.
